Critical Concepts: CPR Steps, Start 30 Compressions Only CPR Within 10 secs

High-quality CPR improves a victim's chances of survival. The three critical characteristics of high

Start 30 compressions within 10 seconds after recognizing cardiac arrest:  Push hard and push fast: Compress at a rate of 100 to 120/ minutes with a depth of at least 2 inches (5 cm) for adults,

  • At least 1/3 the depth of the chest, approximately 2 inches (5 cm) for children

  • At least 1/3 the depth of the chest, approximately 11/2 inches(4 cm), for infants

Allow complete chest recoil after each compression Maximize interruptions in compressions (limit less than 10 seconds) cpr steps compressions only cpr cpr instructions

Check Airway for breathing

Maximize interruptions in compressions (limit less than 10 seconds)

Give 2 Breaths (6 seconds apart)

Give 2 breaths / (6 seconds apart) and if the victim is still unresponsive, continue compressions at a rate of 100 to 120/ minutes.

Once you begin CPR, do not stop except in one of these situations:

  1. You see an obvious sign of life, such as breathing.
  2. An AED is available and ready to use.
  3. Another trained responder or EMS personnel take over.
  4. You are too exhausted to continue.
  5. The scene becomes unsafe.

Hands-Only CPR has been shown to be as effective as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest at home, at work or in public.

AHA

Hands-Only CPR has just two easy steps...

Perform just two easy steps in this order: [STEP 1] Call 911 if you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse.

[STEP 2]  PUSH HARD AND FAST IN THE CENTER OF THE CHEST. WHEN PERFORMING CPR, YOU SHOULD PUSH ON THE CHEST AT A RATE OF 100 TO 120 COMPRESSIONS PER MINUTE AND A DEPTH OF AT LEAST 2 INCHES.
